After the attack on Solberg, Levin aims to reach agreement on judicial appointments
Justice Minister Yariv Levin will try to reach agreements on judicial appointments, Kan News reported Sunday evening.
The move comes in the wake of the attack on the home of Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Solberg and against the backdrop of agreements on judicial appointments to the district courts in Haifa and Beersheba. Over the weekend, Levin called Justice Solberg and expressed revulsion at the attack on his home.
Also over the weekend, and after the High Court of Justice ruling on the matter, agreements were reached on the names of the candidates for judicial office through negotiations mediated by Court Administration Director Tzahi Ouziel. This followed Levin's claim that he would not comply with the court ruling.
Against this backdrop, and because of the agreement on appointing judges in Haifa and Beersheba, Levin will also try to reach agreements regarding appointments to the Supreme Court. Ahead of the elections, and before the announcement of the dissolution of the Knesset, Levin will demand his own candidate for the Supreme Court in exchange for an appointment endorsed by the president.
