Egypt beats New Zealand 3-1, Salah scores in World Cup win
Egypt earned its first victory in Group 7 of the 2026 World Cup by defeating New Zealand 3-1. New Zealand went ahead in the 15th minute through Finn Surman, but Egypt turned the match around in the second half.
Mostafa Ziko equalized in the 58th minute, and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah completed the comeback nine minutes later, making it 2-1. Trezeguet added Egypt's third goal six minutes before the final whistle to seal the result.
The win gives Egypt an important early boost in the group stage after recovering from the opening setback. The match ended with Egypt taking all three points and New Zealand left with one goal from its early lead.
