Marisol Olmedo, a Paraguay supporter known online as “La Madrina,” has emerged as one of the most talked-about personalities around the 2026 World Cup. The tournament has only just begun, but the Paraguayan fan has already drawn major attention on social media and from media outlets worldwide, with hundreds of thousands of followers and a growing international profile.
Olmedo traveled to the United States to follow Paraguay throughout the World Cup. She had already been noticed before the tournament started, when she was seen in the stands at Paraguay’s warm-up match against Nicaragua. Since then, she has kept posting photos and videos from stadiums and fan zones, turning her colorful appearances into viral content.
Her latest burst of attention came from an awkward moment in an Instagram story filmed inside an elevator, when her shirt slipped slightly. She quickly fixed her clothes, but the clip had already spread online. Even so, the incident did not appear to dent her popularity. She later posted fresh World Cup images and received thousands of supportive comments, including one fan who wrote, “I never get tired of admiring so much beauty,” and another who joked, “Because of you, we won.”
Olmedo has said she is pleased to be recognized beyond Paraguay. “I am very happy that people know me outside Paraguay too,” she said. “I love being who I am. I fought to get to where I am today.” Paraguayan reports say she previously worked in construction before moving into modeling and business. Today she describes herself as a model and entrepreneur, and her Instagram account has more than 244,000 followers. Before the tournament, she said she packed 15 outfits inspired by Paraguay’s colors and wrote, “I go after Paraguay everywhere,” adding that supporting “La Albirroja” at the World Cup is “the biggest experience of my life.” In Paraguay, she is already being compared to Larissa Riquelme and Ivana Knoll, though her past has also drawn criticism, including a controversy over a photo with a horse painted in club colors that led to an animal welfare review.
