Five young suspects are expected to be indicted over a suspected online extortion network that targeted dozens of victims by posing as women, arranging meetings, assaulting them, and then threatening to expose private information to their families. The case was investigated over several months by the Aylon subdistrict unit, with the probe overseen by the Tel Aviv District Prosecutor's Office.
According to the investigation, the suspects created dating platforms on Telegram and used them to contact people, including those in relationships, and lure them into supposed intimate meetings under false pretenses. When victims resisted, the suspects allegedly used violence, stole their mobile phones, copied contact lists, and threatened to send relatives images and material meant to support the extortion story.
In one case, a victim reportedly paid the extortionists hundreds of thousands of shekels to keep the matter from reaching his family. Investigators say the evidence gathered points to dozens of victims who met the suspects after joining dating groups on social media.
When the inquiry moved into its open phase, police arrested five suspects and searched their properties. Officers also seized three vehicles allegedly used in the offenses and phones used to communicate with victims. Their remand was extended in court, a prosecutorial statement was filed on Thursday, June 18, 2026, and formal charges are expected in the coming days for extortion by threats, conspiracy to commit a felony, computer access offenses, publishing humiliating images, and invasion of privacy.
