Sharon Sharabi, whose brother Yossi Sharabi was murdered in Hamas captivity, warned against restoring a policy of “containment” in the Gaza Strip, saying it could lead to another October 7. Sharabi, who is identified as a candidate for Yisrael Beiteinu, argued that the government is again embracing a lenient approach that leaves Israeli forces unable to respond effectively.
He said Gazan civilians are approaching the yellow line without fear, while, in his words, they are acting on Hamas’s behalf and Israeli troops have their “hands tied” by a soft policy. Sharabi said the situation begins with the yellow line being eroded in Gaza without a response and could end, he warned, with “pickup trucks full of terrorists inside Israeli territory.”
Sharabi stressed that after October 7, and after the heavy price Israel paid, “it is forbidden to repeat the same mistakes,” and he called for Hamas to be decisively defeated. He ended by urging a “clear, strong and consistent” Israeli policy against every threat, adding, “Israel needs Liberman.”
