Israel’s High Court of Justice heard petitions on Sunday in an expanded panel of 11 justices over a law that changes the composition of the committee that selects judges. The legislation passed during the war.
At the start of the hearing, Supreme Court President Yitzhak Amit urged the court to focus on whether the law amounts to a constitutional amendment, rather than on the broader question of whether the court has authority to strike down Basic Laws or whether that power has been abused.
The Knesset’s representative argued that the petitions should be rejected.
