France’s new away shirt has become a runaway hit with fans, to the point that it is now nearly impossible to find just over a week into the 2026 World Cup. The mint-green jersey, unveiled in March during the international break, is completely sold out in the French Football Federation’s online store in every size, for men, women, children and babies. By contrast, France’s blue home shirt is still available.
Nike, which outfits the French national team, is seeing the same shortage. On the company’s website, only men’s sizes XS and XXL were still listed yesterday, while all other sizes were marked out of stock. The situation is similar in physical stores too, with no adult green shirts left at the federation’s official shop in Paris. A salesperson said, “We have not had any for weeks.” The same response was given at two major Nike stores in Paris, in Les Halles and on the Champs-Élysées. Le Parisien said checks at several other sports shops in Paris and the suburbs showed the shirt had already sold out in May.
The unusual design has a specific meaning. Since the French flag has no green, the shirt was created as a tribute to the original color of the Statue of Liberty in New York, reflecting the fact that the World Cup is being held in the United States. The Nike logo and the French rooster appear in copper, the statue’s original color before oxidation. France’s home shirt uses the same copper details and was worn in the team’s 3-1 opening win over Senegal.
The federation said demand was far beyond expectations. Even though larger quantities were ordered than for previous away shirts, they were still not enough to meet the surge in demand. New shipments are expected to reach stores within 10 to 15 days.
