Boaz Golan, host of Channel 14’s “Open Studio,” lashed out on Friday over the situation on the Lebanese border after four soldiers were killed in a serious overnight incident. He said the army’s strikes in southern Lebanon are not effective enough, that the fighting has become intolerable, and that the country urgently needs a policy change.
Golan called IDF soldiers “sitting ducks” and said the waiting under fire was “simply unbearable.” He rejected arguments that the situation depends on political changes in the United States or on waiting for Donald Trump, saying the war in Lebanon should have ended long ago regardless of who is in Washington.
Speaking as a resident of Kiryat Ata, he said aircraft heading north fly over his area and that people there have had a week of relative quiet, but the broader picture remains unacceptable. He argued that the recent attacks do not create deterrence and that the escalating danger has been anticipated for some time because of what he described as restrictions on the fighting.
“We have not gone back to attacking and nothing,” he said. “What we did was a joke, a ‘dradelah.’” He added that after three years of discussion about infrastructure in Lebanon, no infrastructure has actually been destroyed, while northern residents are forced to run to shelters. Golan called on security officials to change course and let the IDF operate at full force, saying the situation is putting lives at risk and that he has no good answers for family and friends living near the border.
