Yitzhak Carmeli shared another video from his journey in search of the lost Ten Tribes in what he calls the land of the gorillas. In the episode tied to Parashat Chukat, he described midday in the dense Bwindi Forest as especially harsh, with heavy humidity, relentless mosquitoes, and repeated stops to remove leeches that climbed onto his boots.
Carmeli said the midday hours are the best time to get near gorillas, because they usually rest then, leaning against tree trunks deep in the jungle. He said the expedition was able to approach them during that window.
At the end of the forest trek, the group was met by a dramatic waterfall. Carmeli said the force and beauty of the scene left him moved, quoting the verse, “With the sound of many waters, mighty.”
