Hezbollah lawmaker Mohammed Raad said Israel must complete a full withdrawal from Lebanon within 60 days and stop all military activity. Speaking on Thursday, as quoted by the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar, he said Lebanon should study closely the understandings reached between Iran and the United States and draw conclusions for the Lebanese arena.
Raad, who heads Hezbollah’s “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc in the Lebanese parliament, said Beirut should not underestimate Iran’s ability to deter Israel if Israel violates the terms of the understandings. He argued that the agreement effectively sets a clear deadline for Israel to leave southern Lebanon.
“The time ceiling available to the enemy to withdraw completely from Lebanese soil is exactly two months,” Raad said. He added that during that period Israel must “commit strictly to a complete halt of all hostile activities on land, at sea and in the air,” and prepare for a full withdrawal within 60 days, without the need for direct negotiations.
Raad said that after a national consensus is reached in Lebanon, indirect talks with Israel could be advanced to reactivate the ceasefire agreement, but only while preserving the state of hostility between the two sides. He also warned Lebanese authorities against direct contacts with Israel, saying such moves would harm Lebanon’s interests.
