Renewed Homesh Attracts Visitors
In recent days, dozens of yeshiva, ulpana and pre-army preparatory school students have come for tours of the Homesh settlement, where they heard from local residents about the struggle to renew the settlement and about the repeal of the Disengagement Law in northern Samaria.
Students from Yeshivat HaZor’im, ulpana girls and pre-army preparatory school students visited Homesh in recent days as part of educational and introductory tours of the place and the renewed settlement activity there in recent years. During the tours, the students heard about Homesh’s history, the challenges over the years and the renewed life in the settlement. The various tours were guided by Homesh residents, Rabbi Miri Cohen and Beni Gal, who told the students about the determined struggle, perseverance and dedication of the renewed Homesh Yeshiva and about the long path that led to the renewal of the Jewish presence in the area and the repeal of the Disengagement Law.
The tour was held as part of a series of visits to the site in recent times, with students, settlement activists and members of the public coming to see firsthand what is happening in Homesh. Among the notable recent visitors to the settlement, at the initiative of Samaria Regional Council head Yossi Dagan, were Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu and Education Minister Yoav Kisch, who visited Homesh kindergarten and met with the council head and council staff and the settlement’s children. During the visit, the children gave the minister a moving gift, and he spoke with residents and saw up close the development of the renewed settlement.
In addition, former head of the South Hebron Hills Regional Council, Tzviki Bar-Chai, also visited Homesh, for the first time since the evacuation from the place. During the visit, Bar-Chai met with settlement residents and spoke with them about the renewed development there. At the end of the visit, Bar-Chai expressed his emotion and said, “Blessed are you, and blessed are we, that we merited this. A great רוח.”
Beni Gal, a resident of the settlement and one of the founders of the Homesh Tefila headquarters, said: “The settlement of Homesh more than anything shows that there is never despair, and that when you believe it is possible to repair, it can be done. We welcome the broad public that comes to strengthen the renewed settlement in Homesh and tour the place. With God’s help, we will continue working to renew and strengthen settlement throughout northern Samaria, and to believe that just as we merited seeing the repair of the sin of the evacuation here, we will continue to repair it also with a return to the Gaza Strip. We invite families who want to live a life of Torah, community and pioneering to come up and join the momentum of settlement.”
