For the first time, Shlomo Artzi’s familiar voice has been paired with rich orchestral arrangements by the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod, in a project led by producer Patrick Sabag. The album gives new life to nine classic songs, including “Nivra’ti Lecha” and “Yareach,” by weaving Andalusian and traditional sounds into the original vocal recordings.
Sabag, who grew up in Ashdod, described the project as a deeply personal and musical full circle. Artzi said he was impressed by the result and called the encounter between his songs and the orchestra’s distinctive sound a “miracle” that gives them renewed life and freshness.
Elad Levy, the orchestra’s artistic director, called Artzi a “modern paytan,” or liturgical poet, who accurately captures the Israeli story. He said the project shows how Israeli music can remain relevant, renew itself and still surprise listeners.
The album is accompanied by the single “Kol Yom,” which first connected Artzi and Sabag. In its new version, the song receives an emotional Andalusian arrangement and includes singing in Moroccan Arabic, adding another layer of depth and feeling. The project invites Israeli audiences to rediscover songs that have accompanied them for five decades, in a colorful, rooted and inspiring setting.
