Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli of Likud, said on Wednesday evening that Yesh Atid? no, that former IDF chief and party leader Gadi Eisenkot has what he called a “sociological advantage.” Speaking on Kan 11, Chikli declined to clarify what he meant and told the interviewer, Maya Rachlin, “Understand for yourself what it means.”
Chikli added that Eisenkot has “some kind of specific advantage on the sociological level,” but said that on the ideological level, when “one of Meretz’s senior figures, like Uri Zaki, gives you support,” readers should draw their own conclusions. He repeatedly refused to elaborate, saying, “Do the math yourself. I’m sure you understand. What I want to detail, I will detail, and what I don’t, I won’t detail.”
Eisenkot’s party, Yesh, responded sharply, saying it understood the implication and accusing Chikli of being under pressure and unable to confront a candidate who offers Israel “victory, unity and a secure future.” The party said that is what happens “when for years you and your master offer the people of Israel only lies and divisiveness.”
Yesh also said Chikli was insulting “hundreds of thousands of Israelis,” including Likud voters who serve and work, and accused him of insulting the people of Israel. It concluded, “Soon we will replace him and his friends.”
