AEK Larnaca, the Cypriot side set to face Beitar Jerusalem in the Conference League second qualifying round, announced the appointment of Mauro Camoranesi as their new coach. Beitar were drawn against the Cypriot runners-up earlier today.
Camoranesi, 49, signed a one-season deal. He will try to guide AEK back to the Conference League group stage for the first time since the 2022/23 season, and also chase the club’s first league title in its history.
The Italian is best known for his playing career, especially his 225 appearances for Juventus, and for winning the 2006 World Cup with Italy. As a coach, he has worked in several roles but has yet to record major success on the sidelines.
AEK Larnaca will now enter the tie under new management, while Camoranesi will look to turn his celebrated playing reputation into coaching achievements.
