UN Reports 24 Palestinians Killed in Gaza by Israeli Attacks in 5 Days
The United Nations has reported that 24 Palestinians, including four children and one woman, were killed in Israeli attacks over a five-day period in the Gaza Strip. The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights issued a statement on Thursday, warning of continued insecurity in Gaza, nearly a year after a ceasefire was declared. The office stated that "no place and no one is safe in Gaza," despite the ceasefire that has been in effect since October 10, 2025.
According to the UN, the 24 deaths occurred between August 28 and September 1, with 21 of the victims killed in airstrikes. The statement also noted that actions by armed Palestinian groups, reportedly supported by Israeli forces, have harmed civilians. Initial information indicated an Israeli raid in the Al-Keteiba area, west of Gaza City, on September 1, accompanied by armed Palestinian elements and under the cover of airstrikes. This operation resulted in the deaths of a three-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy, and a 31-year-old man.
The fourth victim was a 49-year-old woman killed during the arrest of her husband, Muin Al-Arbid, 51, by Israeli forces. Al-Arbid is identified as a colonel in the internal security apparatus of the de facto authority in Gaza. The UN stressed that Israel's claims of targeting "legitimate targets" do not exempt it from its obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law, including the right to life for Palestinians.
The UN urged an end to the bloodshed and called for justice and accountability for all unlawful killings in the Strip. The report comes amidst widespread destruction and a severe lack of shelter materials in Gaza, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians live in damaged homes or shelters. The UN estimates that approximately 94% of the Gaza population requires shelter assistance. The report also references ongoing Israeli actions since October 7, 2023, which have resulted in at least 73,470 deaths and 174,540 injuries in Gaza.
