Supreme Court Justice Warns of Election Interference Ahead of Court Resumption

As Israel's courts prepare to reopen after their recess on Sunday, Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg, who also chairs the Central Elections Committee, issued a stark warning about the upcoming election period. Speaking at a legal event in Jerusalem on Thursday, Sohlberg described election times as turbulent, with candidates often acting aggressively and tempers flaring.

He specifically cautioned against "various factors, from within and without," that aim to challenge, sow discord, and divide the public. "We must be wary of them," Sohlberg stated, adding that if these divisive forces succeed, "we will all lose."

Sohlberg emphasized that the integrity of elections is the "supreme principle, the compass of democracy." He underscored that safeguarding this integrity is a national mission, the responsibility of the Elections Committee, state authorities, and every single citizen.
