Wolfson CEO Warns: “We Must Prepare for the Next Scenario”

Wolfson Medical Center CEO Prof. Anat Engel took part in a senior health system panel at the 18th annual Health Policy Conference, and stressed the importance of protecting hospitals in Israel, especially in light of the lessons learned from the "Iron Swords" war and the need for ongoing preparedness for emergency scenarios.
Wolfson Medical Center CEO Prof. Anat Engel participated today, Wednesday, in a senior health system panel held as part of the 18th annual Health Policy Conference. Prof. Engel emphasized the importance of protecting hospitals in Israel, especially in light of the lessons of the "Iron Swords" war and the need for constant emergency preparedness.

During the panel, Prof. Engel addressed the managerial challenge of a hospital that combines old infrastructure with new infrastructure. She noted that "an excellent hospital is measured not only by how many beds it has, but by how quickly it knows how to adapt, protect itself and continue operating even in an emergency."
Protecting hospitals is an inseparable part of the mission of saving lives in an emergency, and makes it possible to continue saving lives even under threat. Prof. Engel shared how the Wolfson team had to rethink inpatient spaces and create creative solutions for protected underground areas. She praised the mutual responsibility within the health system and emphasized that emergency preparedness is daily work, and that the lessons must be learned, protection strengthened and preparations made for future scenarios, בראשם, בראש ובראשונה, earthquakes.

Alongside the managerial discussion, Wolfson Medical Center presented an impressive scientific presence at the conference with two lectures and ten research posters by teams from the center and the IMPACT Institute for Health Policy and Services Research. The institute, established only a few months ago, is already showing significant achievements, including the submission of 14 applications for competitive research grants and winning two research grants.
Prof. Engel concluded proudly that research and innovation are an inseparable part of Wolfson’s organizational culture. She added that the connection between clinical, managerial and research work makes it possible to generate new knowledge that will influence health policy in Israel, improve the quality of care and strengthen Wolfson’s standing as a leading and influential medical center.
