CRIF Promotes Gaza GenoLIE Website Fact-Checking War Narratives

The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF) has announced its support for Gaza GenoLIE, a new website dedicated to analyzing and verifying claims circulating about the war in Gaza. The platform aims to 'deconstruct narratives' and 'verify facts' by examining images, figures, and accusations, placing them within their proper context. CRIF stated on X that Gaza GenoLIE relies on 'documented sources, data, and evidence' to scrutinize widely disseminated assertions. The organization emphasized the necessity of relying on facts and sources in an information environment where claims are often repeated without verification.

One of Gaza GenoLIE's initial focuses is the emergence of genocide accusations against Israel following the October 7th attacks. The site points out that the term began appearing as early as October 8, 2023, prior to the Israeli ground offensive in Gaza, which commenced on October 27th. It cites a rally in Times Square on October 8th and subsequent statements, noting that by October 15th, over 800 academics specializing in international law and genocide studies had warned of a potential genocide in Gaza.

Gaza GenoLIE argues that this timeline suggests the accusation was established before the Israeli ground operation began, implying it stemmed from a 'predetermined narrative' rather than an analysis of military operations. The website frames its work as a response to what it describes as a campaign to delegitimize Israel. By promoting Gaza GenoLIE, CRIF seeks to highlight the importance of source verification and contextualization in the ongoing debate, which is marked by highly sensitive and contested accusations.
