Religious Zionist MK Simcha Rothman Sees 30-Day Reserve Duty Goal as Realistic

Simcha Rothman, chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, stated in an interview that the goal of reducing reserve duty to 30 days by 2027 appears realistic to him personally. He believes this is achievable through the practical work and future plans of the Religious Zionist Party, emphasizing that implementing such changes requires being in positions of power, like his role as committee chairman, to advance legislative reforms.

Rothman also discussed potential unification talks between the Religious Zionist Party and Moshe Feiglin's Zehut party. He asserted that the common ground for such a merger is the commitment to prevent the loss of right-wing votes and ensure the victory of the "national camp" in upcoming elections, framing this as a shared responsibility for Israel's future.

Addressing criticism regarding negative campaigning, Rothman argued that the Religious Zionist Party focuses on its own achievements and future plans. He contrasted this with parties that, lacking their own accomplishments, resort to attacking others. He defended the party's campaign against figures like Gadi Eisenkot, stating it reflects Eisenkot's alleged plans to establish a Palestinian state and dismantle the current government's achievements, which he claimed Eisenkot himself admits to.

Rothman highlighted the party's extensive list of achievements across various fields and its focus on substantive policy initiatives as central to its campaign strategy. He specifically mentioned his personal commitment to reforming the justice system as a key area of focus for the party.
