Israel Vows Retaliation Against Nations Imposing Sanctions

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich declared that Israel will no longer be a "passive player" in response to potential sanctions from Britain and other countries targeting Israeli goods. Speaking at a meeting with industrialists in Ma'ale Adumim, Smotrich stated that Israel is preparing a package of "very painful" political and economic responses against any nation that imposes sanctions.

"The idea that they can force us to commit suicide by establishing a terror state in the heart of the Land of Israel, through criminalization, or through economic sanctions, is unacceptable," Smotrich asserted, referencing potential international legal actions and economic restrictions. He emphasized that while countries are free to hold their own political views, they cannot force Israel's hand through economic pressure.

Smotrich assured business owners that the Israeli government would provide comprehensive economic backing and a "safety net" for any local businesses harmed by boycotts. He also encouraged industrialists to seek new export markets, suggesting that if one market closes, others will open, citing the growing Indian economy and the potential of the United States market.

He further expressed optimism about new regional arrangements and strengthened geopolitical standing following recent conflicts, envisioning a more powerful Israeli presence in the Middle East. Smotrich concluded by reiterating the government's commitment to supporting businesses, promising to retaliate against sanctioning countries and provide financial assistance where needed, framing their work as the most important and Zionist endeavor.
