The report says San Antonio believes its problem in the Finals was a lack of veteran composure, especially after failing to protect large leads during the series. That weakness is said to be one of the main reasons the Spurs fell short despite an impressive season that carried them all the way to the final stage. Because of that, the front office is exploring a wide range of reinforcements, with James emerging as the most eye-catching name.
CBS Sports added that James’ long relationship with Gregg Popovich could matter if a move ever became realistic, even though Popovich is no longer coaching from the sideline. The outlet also said the Spurs might be able to make the finances work by adjusting the current roster, and that San Antonio believes James still fits any system because of his versatility and his ability to affect every part of the game.
