Ultra-Orthodox Party Considers Historic Female Candidate Slot

As Israeli elections draw near, the "Hachinuch HaTorani" party, led by Moti Leitner, is reportedly considering a groundbreaking move: placing a woman in a prominent position on its electoral list. This potential inclusion marks a significant departure for an ultra-Orthodox party, which traditionally adheres to strict gender segregation.

The party, aiming to attract voters not represented by established ultra-Orthodox factions, is exploring the possibility of reserving a spot for a female candidate. This initiative comes as parties finalize their candidate lists ahead of the upcoming deadline.

Journalist Dana Bezalel reported that the party is considering Dr. Nechumi Yaffe for the second spot on its list. Dr. Yaffe is a researcher in political and social psychology specializing in ultra-Orthodox society. She holds a senior faculty position at Tel Aviv University and is the Vice President for Research at the TTI Institute. Previously, she worked at the Israel Democracy Institute.

During the recent conflict, Dr. Yaffe established a central ultra-Orthodox "war room" that engaged over 100,000 individuals. Her efforts in this capacity earned her the "Knight of Courage" award from the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation.
