Expert Says Daniella Greenberg’s Back Pain Likely Involves a Rib Injury
Daniel Greenberg, who is dancing with Alon Davidovski on “Dancing with the Stars,” raised concern after posting an Instagram video showing an unusual bump on her back. She said it hurt when she lay down at night, felt less noticeable while standing, and became much worse after the previous day’s activity. Greenberg later went to a doctor, joking that her dance partner was to blame because the rehearsals included being thrown into the air and rolled on the floor.
She later updated followers that “everything is fine,” but said she had taken a blow to the ribs during rehearsals and that “something there moved.” The injury is still being checked. The program’s rehearsals, the article noted, can be intense and sometimes lead to injuries among dancers and celebrities.
To better understand the situation, the outlet consulted Dr. Elad Marom, an orthopedic specialist and head of orthopedics for Clalit’s Dan-Petah Tikva district. After watching the video and hearing the description, he said the impression is a rib contusion and possibly even a fracture, but stressed that no diagnosis can be made from a video alone and that a full medical exam is needed. He explained that rib fractures usually follow a direct blow to the chest, and pain typically worsens with deep breathing, coughing, laughing, or movement of the chest.
Marom said urgent medical evaluation is needed if there is breathing difficulty, a major increase in pain, an open wound, or suspicion of multiple rib fractures. If a fracture is suspected, imaging such as a chest X-ray or a targeted X-ray of the injured area may be required. He added that most rib fractures heal well over time, usually with pain control, relative rest, and avoiding strenuous activity. Greenberg has been told to rest and reduce sports activity for now, and it remains unclear how the injury will affect her participation in the show.
