Ofer Vinter Sets Conditions for Government Entry, Rejects Party Dissolution

Ofer Vinter, chairman of the new right-wing party "Am Israel," announced on Wednesday that his party will not join the next government unless a law mandating national service for all eligible youth is passed before the government is sworn in. Vinter stated unequivocally, "We will not enter a government that does not pass a law ending draft evasion and requiring everyone to enlist before its establishment. If this does not happen, we will not be in the government. Period."

He emphasized that this law would apply to all sectors, with priority given to combat soldiers and reservists. Vinter reiterated his party's commitment to the right-wing bloc and his intention to recommend Benjamin Netanyahu for prime minister, but stressed this support is not unconditional. The announcement comes a week after the launch of "Am Israel," which aims to attract voters disillusioned with existing parties, particularly young people.

Vinter also rejected calls for his party to dissolve and merge with other right-wing factions, stating, "We do not intend to surrender. We will not fall, we will not break up, and we will not let anyone drive a wedge between us. We are not looking for a job arrangement." However, he left the door open for alliances with "new and clean people" who prioritize Israel's welfare and are not tainted by the events of October 7th.

The party's deputy chairman, Yosef Haddad, expressed his desire to see Vinter serve as Defense Minister in a future right-wing government, believing Vinter can lead the security establishment to decisive victories. Haddad also set a goal of winning two Knesset seats from the Arab Israeli community, highlighting the party's efforts to combat crime and promote Arab-Israeli identity in educational institutions.

Vinter also criticized the current government's handling of the Haredi draft, the establishment of an October 7th investigation committee, and the war in Gaza, arguing that the current leadership has failed in these areas.
