Reservist's Business Collapses, Leaving Family with Millions in Debt

A reservist soldier, Moti Levi, who was called up for duty at the height of his business success, has seen his security camera company collapse, leaving his family with millions in debt and facing potential eviction from their home. Levi, who employed 16 people and supported 17 families, was mobilized for reserve duty shortly after taking on significant business commitments and expanding his operations. His wife, Hila, told Channel 14 that the business was at its peak when he was called up.

The attempt to manage the company remotely from the front lines proved impossible. With Moti serving over six months in cumulative reserve duty, and many of his employees also mobilized, the business rapidly deteriorated. The couple took out loans from family and mortgaged their home to try and salvage the business, but now face accumulated debts of approximately four million shekels.

Hila stated that they urgently need crowdfunding to reach a settlement with banks and creditors, appealing to the public for help to save their home and get back on their feet. Moti is now working as an employee for a former competitor who offered him a job after understanding his situation, but the family is still burdened by the immense debt.

Commentators on the program highlighted the perceived discrimination between salaried employees and self-employed individuals in reserve duty, arguing that the state only compensates for a fraction of the actual damage incurred by businesses like Levi's. They emphasized that Levi volunteered for service and lost his home as a result, and the public should now fight for him as he fought for the country.
