How to Make a Salmon Sushi Bowl in 15 Minutes
A new deconstructed sushi trend offers a quick fix for midday sushi cravings: instead of rolling seaweed or waiting for delivery, all the familiar sushi ingredients go into one bowl. The result is meant to be a warm, juicy, satisfying meal in exactly 15 minutes, according to the recipe.
The dish is built for one generous serving. It uses about 200 grams of fresh salmon fillet, skinless and cut into bite-size cubes, plus 1 cup of hot cooked rice, which can be white, whole grain, or sushi rice. The fast marinade combines 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon honey or silan, and half a teaspoon of crushed garlic.
For the toppings, the recipe calls for half a ripe avocado, half a crunchy cucumber sliced thin, a handful of edamame, a sheet of nori cut into thin strips, and a sauce made from 1 tablespoon mayonnaise mixed with 1 teaspoon sriracha or another hot sauce. It also suggests adding toasted sesame seeds at the end.
To prepare it, the salmon is coated in the marinade, then seared in a teaspoon of oil over high heat for 2 to 3 minutes per side until browned outside but still juicy inside. Air fryer users can cook it for 8 minutes at 200°C. While the fish cooks, the rice goes into the bowl and the avocado, cucumber and edamame are arranged on top. The hot salmon is added to the center, then finished with nori strips and the spicy mayo. The recipe presents this as a simple meal to make at home today.
