Dermer recalled their first meeting when Vance was running for Senate in Ohio, noting Vance's focus on understanding the strategic rationale behind U.S.-Israel relations.

Vance received a warm reception at the conference. In a private conversation with RJC Chairman Norm Coleman, Vance defended his willingness to appear on influential podcasts, arguing that Republicans must reach voters wherever they are. He clarified that he has red lines for engagement, avoiding discussions with those who have attacked his wife or praised Adolf Hitler. Vance did not directly condemn Carlson during their exchange. Previously, Vance drew criticism for remarks on Joe Rogan's podcast, where he suggested Israeli elements were attempting to influence American public opinion to prolong the war.
