Lebanese Man Returns Home to Find Living Room Turned Into a Goat Pen
A social media video circulating in the past day shows the disturbing conditions facing some Lebanese residents returning south as fighting subsides. In the clip, a Lebanese man enters his apartment for the first time since evacuating during the war and stands shocked at the doorway when he sees the living room packed with dozens of goats and sheep.
The footage shows the tiled floor covered with a thick layer of manure, mud, and filth, as the animals had effectively turned the home into a functioning barn. The goats reportedly struggled to get back out of the apartment.
The return of residents is taking place after an agreement that brought a significant lull in the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, but local authorities in Lebanon are urging people to delay going back because of the extent of the destruction. Still, some residents have already begun returning to their villages.
Despite the civilian returns, the military situation remains unresolved. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said IDF forces will stay in southern Lebanon as long as necessary to maintain “freedom of action” and prevent Hezbollah attacks. Defense Minister Israel Katz said the security zones will be cleared of terror infrastructure, including houses used by the organization.
