Rare Albino Buffalo Dubbed 'Donald Trump' Rescued From Sacrifice in Bangladesh
A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, weighing nearly 700 kilograms, became an online sensation after its blond tuft of hair reminded viewers of U.S. President Donald Trump. The animal had already been sold for sacrifice ahead of Eid al-Adha, but it drew so much public attention that the government stepped in and changed its fate.
The buffalo was kept on a farm in Bangladesh, where livestock markets are a central part of preparations for local holidays. In the days before the festival, crowds visited the farm to see it, and videos of the animal spread widely on social media. Its pale body, golden tuft and calm behavior made it an unusual attraction, turning it from a market animal into a minor national curiosity.
The farm owner, Ziauddin Marida, said his younger brother gave the animal the nickname “Donald Trump” because of the resemblance between the tuft of hair on its head and the former president’s hairstyle. He added that beyond its appearance, the buffalo was especially gentle and required close care, frequent feeding and regular bathing.
As public interest grew, Bangladeshi authorities intervened at the last moment. According to Sky News and Reuters, Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo not be slaughtered, that the buyer’s money be returned, and that the animal be transferred to the National Zoo in Dhaka. An Interior Ministry source said the decision was made because of security concerns and the extraordinary level of public attention surrounding the case.
