Ponevezh Yeshiva Faction Holds Protest Rally Amid Eviction Dispute

Hundreds of students from the Ponevezh Yeshiva, aligned with Rabbi Gershon Eidelstein, are holding a protest and prayer rally on Tuesday night at the grave of Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman. The demonstration is in response to an arbitration ruling ordering the yeshiva's eviction from its Givat Ponevezh location.

Leaflets distributed in Bnei Brak announced the rally, titled "Without an advocate before a perpetrator of sin." The faction supporting Rabbi Eidelstein is also preparing for further legal battles, considering an appeal to the Supreme Court to delay or cancel the arbitration ruling.

The rally coincides with the 57th anniversary of the passing of Rabbi Yosef Shlomo Kahaneman, the founder of Ponevezh Yeshiva. The yeshiva administration had taken measures to prevent confrontations between the opposing factions during the memorial prayer service for Rabbi Kahaneman, which took place earlier on Tuesday.

Internal directives were issued to students aligned with Rabbi Eidelstein, urging them to avoid unnecessary disturbances and to attend the service with faculty and rabbis. These precautions were aimed at preventing clashes that could lead to fines.

Ultimately, the memorial prayer service proceeded without the feared confrontations, according to the report.
