Studio Ghibli Film 'Arrietty' Premieres in IMAX Theaters in Israel

Following the successful IMAX screening of "Princess Mononoke" last year, another beloved Studio Ghibli classic, "The Secret World of Arrietty," is now coming to IMAX screens across Israel. The animated fantasy film, directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, will begin showing in IMAX theaters starting this Thursday, with a Hebrew-dubbed version available.

Studio Ghibli, a renowned Japanese animation studio, has produced internationally acclaimed films, many of which continue to be screened worldwide, including in Israel, often at cinematheques. The studio's latest film, "The Boy and the Heron" by animation pioneer Hayao Miyazaki, also received a theatrical release in Israel.

"The Secret World of Arrietty" tells the story of a race of tiny people who live by borrowing from the homes of humans. The plot is set in motion when a young boy, visiting his aunt's house in the countryside while suffering from an illness, discovers their existence and attempts to connect with them. This interaction disrupts the established order of their lives, leading to unforeseen consequences.

While "Arrietty" has been previously released in Israel with a Hebrew dub and on DVD, this marks its debut in a remastered IMAX version. This follows the precedent set by "Princess Mononoke," which was the only other Ghibli film to receive such an IMAX treatment in Israel thus far. The increased availability of diverse animated content from foreign countries in Israeli cinemas and streaming services is noted as a positive trend.
