Finance Minister Smotrich Praises Educators, Pledges Systemic Reform

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich sent a special letter to educators across Israel on Tuesday, marking the start of the 2025-2026 school year. He expressed gratitude for their dedication, particularly during challenging times, acknowledging their crucial role in shaping Israeli society and the nation's future.

Smotrich, drawing from his background with many educators in his family, stated that the issue with the education system is not the teachers or principals, but rather a overly centralized bureaucracy that makes decisions far from the classroom. He argued that this system stifles creativity and initiative by not granting educators the authority and independence they deserve.

He outlined his vision for an improved education system, emphasizing the need for greater managerial flexibility for principals who understand their students, teachers, and community needs. "We must advance an education system that places more trust in educators and less power in bureaucracy and employee committees," Smotrich wrote.
