Dr. Yossi Londin Appointed History Supervisor for Religious Education

As the new academic year begins, Dr. Yossi Londin has assumed the role of History Supervisor for the State Religious Education system (HAMAD). Londin, a historian and lecturer, is known for his long-standing involvement in history education and his advocacy for the humanities within the education system.

His brother, Rabbi Hagai Londin, congratulated him on his appointment, expressing hope that Dr. Londin will "introduce the children of Israel to the history of the nation and the world, with an understanding of God's ways in His hiddenness."

Dr. Londin brings extensive experience to the position, including years of teaching history and training teachers. Previously, he served as the head of the History Department at Orot Israel College and was a member of the Ministry of Education's professional committees for history and civics.

Londin has been a prominent critic of reforms affecting history education, particularly those proposed by former ministers Shai Piron and Yifat Shasha-Biton. He has voiced strong opposition to changes in how humanities and social sciences are taught, specifically criticizing the shift from external examinations to alternative assessment methods like projects. In past interviews, Londin argued that the issue extends beyond testing methods to a broader perception of educational goals, warning against a trend of "erasing knowledge in favor of acquiring skills" and the diminishing role of humanities subjects.
