Hasidic Scholar Arrested for Draft Evasion Days Before Son's Brit Milah

A prominent scholar from the Skver Hasidic community in Jerusalem was arrested and transferred to military prison just days before his newborn son's circumcision ceremony. The scholar, identified as an 'avreich' (a married man studying Torah), had reportedly attempted multiple times to regularize his military status with the draft office but was unsuccessful. He was apprehended at Camp Yotam in Eilat, a location he was reportedly assured would be free of issues, and is being held for 10 days on charges of draft evasion.

The arrest has shocked his family and friends, particularly as the Brit Milah (circumcision ceremony) is scheduled for Thursday. Relatives and community members are appealing to relevant authorities to allow him to attend the significant family event. Sources close to the family state the scholar is willing to resolve his military status as soon as possible. He also wishes to travel to the United States to join his Rebbe, the Skverer Rebbe, for the Sukkot and Simchat Torah holidays.

The family and friends are expressing hope that authorities will consider the sensitive circumstances and permit the father to celebrate his son's Brit Milah.
