Elite Unit Soldiers Sue Military Prosecution for $4.8 Million

Soldiers from the elite "Unit 100" and the legal organization Honenu have filed a NIS 18 million (approximately $4.8 million) lawsuit against the Military Advocate General's Corps (MAG), the State Attorney's Office, the Military Police (MP), and journalist Guy Peleg. The lawsuit, filed on Monday, stems from the handling of a case involving the soldiers, which Honenu described as "false suspicions." It also addresses the high-profile arrest of the soldiers, the alleged leaking of investigation materials, the subsequent criminal proceedings, and the investigation into the leak itself.

According to Honenu, the lawsuit centers on the conduct of various parties throughout the affair and the alleged harm caused to the soldiers. Attorney Menashe Yado of Honenu stated that the complex lawsuit targets powerful entities, including former command staff of the Military Advocate General's Corps and Channel 12, accusing them of severely harming the soldiers. He also criticized law enforcement officials for allegedly protecting the Military Advocate General's Corps due to shared values and systemic proximity, thereby undermining the rule of law and equal rights.

The plaintiffs are seeking NIS 18 million from the defendants, arguing that the damage extended beyond the suspicions and arrest to include the leaking of investigation materials and the subsequent management of the criminal proceedings and the leak investigation. Honenu clarified that the lawsuit targets both former Military Advocate General's Corps officials and other figures within law enforcement and the media. The case will now proceed to further legal stages where the defendants will be required to respond to the soldiers' and Honenu's allegations.
