Retired Police Demand Mayor Skip 9/11 Memorial Over Israel Stance

The retired Port Authority Police Benevolent Association has formally requested that New York City Mayor Eric Adams refrain from attending the upcoming 25th anniversary commemoration of the September 11th attacks at Ground Zero. In a letter sent by the organization's president, John McNabitt, on behalf of its 600 members, Adams was told he had not earned the right to stand at Ground Zero alongside victims' families, survivors, and first responders, and that his presence would cause "deep pain."

The retired officers cited Adams' past remarks perceived as hostile towards law enforcement and his stance on Israel as reasons for their demand. The sentiment against the mayor's attendance is widespread, evidenced by an online petition garnering tens of thousands of signatures calling for his exclusion from the ceremony.

Despite the significant public outcry and pressure, Mayor Adams has indicated through a spokesperson that he intends to attend the memorial event as scheduled.
