Children's Puppet Show in NYC Sparks Outrage With Anti-Israel Content

A children's puppet show at the International Puppet Festival in New York City took a sharp turn into political territory, featuring anti-Israel messages that shocked attendees. The performance, titled "Cardboard Pizza Puppet Circus," was initially advertised as a family-friendly event focusing on New York City landmarks and characters.

However, approximately 15 minutes into the show, according to a Jewish mother who attended with her 4-year-old son, the content shifted dramatically. The puppets began discussing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with accusations that Israel bombs hospitals. The mother described a scene depicting a "hate flotilla" and noted that anti-Israel chants were heard from the audience.

She expressed her dismay, stating that the anti-Israel content "came out of nowhere" and that her young son was confused by the sudden shift. The show also reportedly touched upon American taxpayer money being sent to Israel.

The festival itself received support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts. Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, condemned the show, calling it an "inappropriate use of public resources" and stating that publicly funded cultural programs should not contribute to an environment where Jews feel unsafe.
