IDF Soldier Walks Again After Breakthrough Bone Healing Treatment
A severely injured IDF soldier, Uriel Shukron, who was wounded on October 7th and faced a prolonged and difficult rehabilitation, has regained the ability to walk unaided thanks to a novel Israeli bio-medical development. Shukron, a squad commander in the Paratroopers, sustained severe injuries to his elbow and left leg during combat in Kibbutz Kissufim. He described the harrowing experience of being evacuated under fire and the subsequent two years of surgeries, infections, and failed bone grafts that threatened amputation.
Despite extensive medical interventions, including a massive external fixator and the prospect of bone marrow transplants, Shukron's bone refused to heal. Facing further complex surgeries, he agreed to participate in a trial involving a new calcium and magnesium supplement developed by the Israeli company Amorphical. The supplement utilizes an amorphous nano-calcium technology, inspired by research into the rapid bone regeneration of blue desert crabs.
During a pre-operative examination, Shukron's surgeon was astonished to find that his bone had fully healed. The surgeon, who was unaware of Shukron's participation in the trial, reportedly exclaimed, "Shukron, your bone has healed, I don't know how to explain this story." Shukron was able to walk without crutches for the first time since his injury, with doctors later clearing him to potentially resume running within three months.
Amorphical CEO Eden Ben explained that the amorphous calcium's unique structure allows for much faster and easier absorption by the body compared to crystalline minerals. This breakthrough has significant implications not only for trauma patients like Shukron but also for millions suffering from osteoporosis. Clinical trials have shown the supplement can increase bone density and halt the progression of osteoporosis, offering a potential paradigm shift in treatment for bone density disorders.
Shukron also shared insights from his recovery, emphasizing the importance of focusing on small victories and maintaining a strong support system. He highlighted the interconnectedness of mental and physical health, noting how his physical condition deteriorated during periods of depression and improved with positive reinforcement and unwavering support from his family.
