Vance Says U.S.-Iran Understanding Is a Short, General Framework
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said in an interview with CNN that the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran is a very general document, about a page and a half long. He said many details will still be worked out later in technical negotiations.
According to Vance, the text sets a framework under which Iran would receive the benefits spelled out in the agreement only if it fulfills its commitments. He said the first clause states that both Iran and the United States are committed to “regional peace and stability.”
From Washington’s perspective, Vance said, that means Tehran must stop funding violent groups that the United States defines as terrorist organizations and also stop financing regional instability. He did not provide further details about the pending technical talks or when they would begin.
