Hapoel Petah Tikva Secures First Win of Season Under New Coach

Hapoel Petah Tikva achieved their first victory of the season on Saturday, defeating Hapoel Jerusalem 1-0 at the HaMoshava Stadium. The decisive goal came in the 14th minute from Chris Kimby, marking a significant moment for coach Omer Peretz.

Peretz acknowledged the team's difficult start and the crucial nature of the win for morale. "It wasn't an easy period, we didn't start the season well, we needed this win to give us energy and make the players believe in themselves," he stated. He admitted the team's performance wasn't spectacular but emphasized that the victory was paramount. "Football wasn't great, it's not what we want to see from the team, but the win sanctifies everything."

The coach also highlighted the team's squad limitations, mentioning the uncertain status of player Songo and the need for additional signings to complete the roster. "We are missing players. Songo is not here, his deal is up in the air. We don't have him and we don't have a replacement. We need a few more players to finalize the squad," Peretz explained. Regarding potential transfers, he stated, "Goni Naor? Michael Ohana? Any Israeli player who is available right now interests us. We are looking at the market and deeply examining every option. Anyone who fits us professionally and personality-wise, we will go for him."

Peretz expressed confidence in the team's future, despite current shortcomings. "We need to understand our strengths on the move. There are very big disadvantages from last year. We are short, but we will fix what's needed. There will be a strong team here, it will take more time. We are aware of the expectations, we will look much better."

Hapoel Jerusalem's coach, Lior Zada, expressed deep disappointment with the result. "I am leaving very disappointed. We didn't start well, we conceded a goal that decided the game. We didn't react well in the first half, in the second half we pressed and created many chances. This was a draw game, this loss is very disappointing," he said.
