Maccabi Tel Aviv Faces Harsh Criticism After Early Conference League Exit

Maccabi Tel Aviv is grappling with deep frustration following their 1-1 draw against Lugano, which resulted in their elimination from the UEFA Conference League with a 3-2 aggregate score. This marks the first time since the 2022/23 season that the club will not participate in the group stage or any European league, ending their continental campaign prematurely.

The club's management and supporters have directed criticism broadly, including at owner Mitch Goldhar, CEO Steven Aharon, sporting director Kenny Miller, and the players themselves. Inside the club, there is a widespread feeling that the squad lacks sufficient quality and depth. Key departures such as Amir Saheti, Heitor, and Ben Lederman, alongside the sales of Abu Farhi and Malada, have not been adequately compensated. Only one new player, Astr Sukler, has been brought in, while Dan Glazer, another acquisition, has seen little playing time. Additionally, injuries to Shagiv Yehezkel and Christian Blitz have further weakened the team.

The club acknowledges that even last season the squad was not strong enough and admits to a decline since then. There is a sense of helplessness about the current roster's ability to compete effectively, with internal voices questioning, "Who do they expect us to play with?" Criticism also targets the players on the pitch, describing them as lacking energy and creativity, portraying the team as "switched off" and ineffective during matches.
