Supreme Court Judge Calls for Security Discussion Over Protection of Political Candidates

Noam Solberg, chairman of the Central Elections Committee and a Supreme Court justice, has requested a meeting with Shmuel Ben Ezra, head of the National Security Council, to address the Shin Bet's refusal to provide security for Democratic Party leader Yair Golan and Yisrael Party chairman Gadi Eizenkot. According to a report by Kan News, Solberg emphasized in his letter that the issue should be discussed both in the advisory committee on personal security and in the ministerial committee. He noted that he has already received several inquiries on the matter.

In his letter, Solberg highlighted the need to clarify which authority determines whether a party leader is under threat and who is responsible for carrying out their security. He called for a review that distinguishes between members of the Knesset, ministers, government officials, and candidates who are not Knesset members, such as Eizenkot and Golan. Solberg stressed the importance of establishing clear criteria for the security of party leaders during election periods.
