Trump Says Strait of Hormuz Remains Open Amid Ongoing US Military Operations Against Iran
US President Donald Trump addressed the situation with Iran during the NATO leaders summit, stating that Iran is currently struggling and has very limited military capability. He highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz remains open and under US control, with continuous transit of American naval vessels. Trump revealed that 24 US ships passed through the strait the previous night and emphasized that no ships are allowed to pass without US approval, effectively enforcing a blockade against Iran.
Trump also mentioned that the US has cleared the strait of mines using advanced mine-clearing technology and monitors the area closely with space-based assets. He claimed that any vessel attempting to enter the strait with mines is detected and neutralized, noting that two such vessels have already been destroyed.
When asked about potential sanctions on Russia or its President Vladimir Putin for trading with Iran, Trump responded that Russia has so far behaved well regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Regarding Chinese banks doing business with Iran, Trump refused to confirm whether sanctions have been imposed, stating he does not have to disclose all actions publicly.
On the prospect of negotiations with Iran, Trump said the US is not seeking talks or meetings. He reiterated that millions of barrels of oil pass daily through the strait, which remains open and secure under US oversight.
