Ehud Banai Revives His Classic Song 'Atuf Berachamim' After 38 Years

Israeli musician Ehud Banai has released his own rendition of the song "Atuf Berachamim," which he originally wrote nearly four decades ago for singer Rita. The new version appears on Banai's mini-album "The Eighth Sound," created as the soundtrack for a new video art exhibition he developed with video artist Ronen Tanchum.

"Atuf Berachamim" was first released in 1988 as a single from Rita's album "Yemei Hatom." Banai wrote the lyrics, while Rami Kleinstein composed the music and handled the original arrangement. The exhibition, titled "The Eighth Sound," is currently on display at the Bell Cave in Beit Guvrin National Park. It was initiated by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and combines music, text, and specially created video works designed for the cave setting.

The exhibition's soundtrack features many of Banai's well-known songs, most of which were re-arranged and recorded anew for this project. Notably, Banai's personal performance of "Atuf Berachamim" is included for the first time. He was inspired to write the song after an ultrasound examination during his first daughter's pregnancy.
