Israeli Economy Ministry Warns of Dangerous Water Heaters Causing Burns and Fires

The Israeli Ministry of Economy has issued a serious safety warning regarding a specific model of 80-liter electric water heaters marketed under the name "Norston, Solar and Electric Water Heater," produced and sold in Israel during 2024-2025. Testing by the Standards Institute revealed significant safety defects that could lead to severe burns, electric shocks, and fires.

Key issues include a faulty safety mechanism that may fail to stop heating during overheating, potentially causing excessive pressure that could rupture the tank or connected pipes and spill scalding water. The internal coating of the tank does not meet official standards, risking accelerated rust and metal damage, which increases the chance of cracks over time. Electrical system faults and power connections were also found, which may cause short circuits, electrocution, or fire outbreaks.

Additionally, the product was found to bear an unauthorized certification mark and lacked required model and serial number markings, violating legal standards. The Ministry urges owners of this water heater model to immediately check for any unusual signs, especially water leaks from the heater or pipes. If any issues arise or doubts exist, users should promptly contact a certified technician or solar system installer for inspection and avoid using the heater until its condition is verified.
